Simple, Bowser and Clawdia got a divorce. Granted, this is highly unlikely, but let's discuss. The Mario series isn't shy about marriage. We've had tons of plots or side plots that deals with the prospect of marriage, with Odyssey being the latest example. There, in a lot of cases, two sides to marriage; married couples and divorced couples.

Sorry for my ignorance, but I haven't heard of this rumor. I believe an old comic mentioned Bowser having a wife named Clawdia Koopa. Anyway, in my head, the mother of the Koopalings is none other than Princess Toadstool, and it happened while Mario was dreaming about the last video game he played, which was of course Doki Doki Panic.

As the wedding is about to begin, Koopa's mother scolds Koopa for not being dressed properly, him hurrying off to get ready. As Koopa puts on his wedding jacket and pants, his mother calls for him to hurry. Koopa impatiently returns to the wedding with Mouser, not noticing that he had left behind his Koopa Scepter, which Mario manages to claim.
